The three national consumer reporting agencies which include TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian are required to provide, at your request, a copy of your free credit report once every twelve months. The Direct Marketing Association, know as the DMA, offers consumer address list to companies. It is these lists that the DMA sells to direct mail marketers, agencies and other telemarketing companies. Yes, they sell your name and contact information so someone can send you offers, coupons, and specials in the mail.

Using the DMAChoice.org website you can submit an online request to be removed from future DMA consumer listings. If you prefer, you may also remove yourself from those lists, for five years, simply by submitting sending the registration form for mailing preferences form.

Bonus Tip: In the world of electronic email communications now you can use the DMAchoice's™ email Preference Service (eMPS) can help you control the number of commercial emails you receive. 

  
 
       Slow The Telelphone Telemarketing Calls
      
        The Do Not Call Registry is managed and enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, commonly known as the FTC. The "Do Not Call List" offers consumers the opportunity to dramatically reduce the volume of telemarketing calls they receive. 


How do I register? By calling the registry's toll-free phone number at 1-888-382-1222 or visiting the registry's website at www.donotcall.gov

What telephone numbers can I register? You can register a mobile phone, your home telephone, but not a business number.

I'm registered, but now what do I do? Nothing. As of January 1, 2005 telemarketers were given 31 days from the date you register to stop calling you. Normally, it takes only one day from request for your name to begin appearing on the Do Not Call Registry.

How do I file a complaint if calls do not stop? You can visit the website or call 1-888-382-1222. You must be able to provide either the name or phone number of the company that called you. You must also provide the date of the call, along with your phone number.

       Stop Credit Card Offers
      
        Do you ever feel like the only thing that you receive in your mailbox are credit card offers? Now, there is a way to reduce the unwelcome offers for credit.
